Air Travel Tips When Traveling with a Child
There are basic sets of procedures you must do when traveling by air. But these procedures may not be enough if you are traveling with a child. Because, no matter how you put it, there are more things to consider if you are flying with a little person than if you are flying alone.
Of course, you don’t have to be an Einstein to know all these. You only have to use your common sense to make sure that you please the child with your during the whole duration of the flight,
Here are the things that can help you survive air travel with a child without a fuss:
First thing you have to do is to book the fastest flight possible. If you can, you fly a non-stop flight. There are several reasons why you should do this. First, non-stop flights will shorten the amount of time of air travel your child has to endure. Second, non-stop flight will eliminate transferring to connecting flights and walking through the endless terminals of the airport. And third, non-stop flight provides convenience to your child, as he or she would not have to change seats at every stop.
Consider the crowd. During daytime, airports are crowded and your child will surely don’t like it. Crowd also means higher chances of unfortunate things to happen. Try to book your flight during non-peak hours. This can be during weekdays where air travelers are few or during late night or midday. This will also give you the chance to board planes with several available seats. This will enable you and your child to find some extra seats where you can stretch your legs out and sleep comfortably.
Explain the details of the flight to your child. Giving your child basic information about the flight like your destination and the whole boarding process would make things fall into the right order. If your child is flying for the first time explain all the experience that the passenger would encounter including the noise and bumps. This would somehow remove any impending fear that may happen.
Arrive at the airport early for your air travel. Have you experience running at the endless terminal just to catch your flight? Imagine that if you are tagging along a child who has a set of legs 3 times smaller than yours. If you show mercy to your child, please, arrive early at the airport so that you can avoid this from happening.
Put on comfortable clothes and bring extra. Give him or her clothes that are comfortable and would not make him or her uneasy. If he or she has favorite set of pajamas, you can bring that too. In this way, your child can easily sleep during the flight. Some child usually associate sleeping with the scent of the bed they get familiar with. Bringing her pillow would come in handy. Also bring enough toys and snacks to keep your child busy. Take note though that some airports don’t allow fresh fruits to enter the plane so to be safe, don’t carry some with you.
There you go: the ways to make air travel with a child easy and less stressful. Follow these to assure you and your little one will have a more enjoyable flying. Good luck!
